Basic Properties
Active substance: Insulin Degludec
Insulin Tresiba is a long-acting insulin analog that should be administered once a day at mealtime.
It is designed to control high blood sugar levels, as well as blood glucose. For adults with type 1 diabetes mellitus, Tresiba has to be mixed with short-/rapid-acting insulin; with type 2 diabetes – it can be used without any additional medicines or in combination with oral antidiabetic remedies.
Check out the pen before using it. The solution has to be transparent, without any premises or sediment.
Instructions for Use
The remedy should be used once per day at mealtime. There should be 8 hours interval between every injection. Areas the patients may apply insulin on include the buttocks, thighs, or shoulders. It is recommended to switch the place after every injection to prevent bumps formation. Avoid injections in the vein or muscles. Do not massage the area of choice after using the remedy.
Limitations
Do not use Tresiba insulin pen if:
- You are allergic to any of the medicine components;
- You feel the upcoming episode of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
Dosing and Administration of Tresiba 200 Units/Ml
The remedy dose can be prescribed only by the professional doctor; the patient cannot do it by themselves.
Do not use the same pen on various patients, even if the needle was changed. Make sure you have extra cartridges with you in case of an emergency.
This type of insulin cannot be used for diabetic ketoacidosis treatment. In case of any changes in the person’s diet, extreme weight loss or gain, deseases, or illnesses, the specialist should change the insulin regimen.
In case of low blood sugar episodes (also known as hypoglycemia), it is recommended to have a quick sugar source nearby. It can be a sugary drink, sugar cubes, or a glucose pill. If that was not enough, the doctor’s help is required. Contact your specialist because you may need a glucagon injection.
Side Effects
Basal insulin has a lower risk of hypoglycemia; however, some side effects are still possible:
- Skin irritations at the injection sites (rash, redness, swelling, etc.);
- Slight itching;
- Dizziness.
Mind the Tresiba may cause complications you should be aware of – blurred vision, breathing problems, loss of consciousness, sudden pallor, etc. If any of these symptoms occurred, contact the doctor to get immediate medical help.
